Tree planting and the promotion of environmental management is an ongoing activity at SAFE. Over the past few years various trees have been planted in Sundarban village and by Atrai riverside, bordering a new football pitch.
The wide variety of trees offer seasonal fruit, flowers for worship, medicinal properties, increased biodiversity, shade and contribute to the aesthetics of the area. SAFE works with individuals in specific localities to plant new trees, encouraging ownership and ensuring they are looked after as they mature. Ten new trees have been planted to replace those seedlings that did not survive last years monsoon.
Bamboo baskets, woven in Sundarban offer protection from strong winds and animals, whilst providing stability as the trees grow.
